English-as-a-Second Lanuage (ESL)

CEP is approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE) to offer English-as-a-Second Language training to the general public. We are also contracted by the San Bernardino County/Jobs and Employment Services Department (JESD) to offer ESL/Educational Services for CalWORKS clients.

There are three levels of ESL classes that may be taken under the BPPVE-approved program. Each course is provided by a BPPVE-approved instructor who has the credentials to provide instruction towards this subject matter. The following is a brief description of each level of ESL course:

ESL Program Information.

  ESL Level I

This level is a non-native English class designed for students whose native language is other than English. The course will offer non-English speaking students immediate survival skills in the English language to meet their basic communication needs. A cumulative approach is used to integrate all four areas of the language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

ESL Level II This level is a Limited Enlgish Speaker (LES) course designed for students who have had prior formal course work in the English language in this country, on their own, or can demonstrate sufficient ability to participate in this course. This course offers LES students individual and group language assistance to remove language deficiencies in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
ESL Level III This level offers limited English proficient students language structure comparable to those attained by native English speakers through the use of second language acquisition methodology.

If you know someone who may need assistance in developing their English language skills, please feel free to contact our office.
